A few metres more visibility at night, on fog or heavy rains/snow, can spell the difference between arriving home safely or figuring in an unfortunate road mishap. Thus, we should always take every opportunity to upgrade our vehicle accessories to make our travels much safer. And installing new LED headlight globes BRIGHTEN your prospect of a drive with a bit more peace of mind!
What are LED Headlight Globes?
LED headlight globes (aka LED headlight bulbs or LED headlight conversion kits) are solutions to replace traditional halogen or HID (High-Intensity Discharge) bulbs in vehicle headlights. LED stands for Light Emitting Diode, a semiconductor device that emits light when an electric current passes through it.
An Aside: About LEDs
LEDs’ efficiency, longevity, and versatility ushered the shift of both manufacturers and users to this technology. Today, LEDs are found in residential, commercial, and outdoor lighting, besides its ubiquitous automotive lighting use.
People also see it more on electronic displays on televisions, computer monitors, smartphones, and digital signage.
Finally, LEDs are utilised in architectural lighting, accent lighting, holiday lighting, and decorative applications.
Overall, LEDs offer numerous advantages over traditional lighting technologies, and it was inevitable for people to adopt them in more residential, commercial, and industrial applications over time.
Benefits of LED Headlight Globes
LED headlight globes for vehicles offer several advantages over traditional bulbs:
LED headlight globes produce a bright, focused beam of light that resembles natural daylight. This provides enhanced visibility on the road, making it easier for drivers to see and be seen by other vehicles, pedestrians, and obstacles.
LED technology is more energy-efficient compared to halogen or HID bulbs. They require less power to produce the same amount of light. This efficiency can contribute to increased fuel efficiency in vehicles.
LED headlight globes have a much longer lifespan than halogen or HID bulbs. They typically last tens of thousands of hours, whereas halogen bulbs may last only a few thousand hours. This longevity reduces the need for frequent bulb replacements, thus saving a few dollars.
Unlike HID bulbs, which require a warm-up to reach their full brightness, LED headlight globes provide instant illumination when switched on. This feature allows for immediate visibility without any delay.
LED headlights are more environmentally friendly compared to halogen or HID headlights. They consume less energy, contributing to reduced fuel consumption and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, LED headlights do not contain hazardous materials such as mercury, which is present in HID headlights.
LEDs are more compact, which allows for easier installation in vehicles.
LEDs are solid-state devices without fragile components such as filaments or glass bulbs, making them more durable and resistant to shocks, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.

Disclaimer: Are aftermarket LED headlights legal?
“The Australian Design Rules (ADRs) are national standards for vehicle safety, anti-theft and emissions.”From the ADR website
The ADRs cover all vehicle regulations regarding lighting/lamps, tyres, doors/locks, brake systems, seats, exhaust, mirrors, fuel systems, and all other relevant vehicle parts. Before any vehicle or accessory is deemed “Australian road-worthy”, they should meet the ADR benchmark. Installing and using LED headlight globes are part of these rules.
The ADR for “headlamps” only mentions and regulates “filament lamps” (i.e., the traditional halogen, filament-fitted headlights commonly installed in the factory. Meanwhile, aftermarket LED globes replicate the beam and illumination of factory lamps using LED technology without the structure and composition of an ADR-approved light. So, technically, aftermarket LED globes are not a “filament-fitted headlamp”.
Yet, since there is no ADR to approve aftermarket LED headlights against, the product is “non-compliant” but is “not breaking” any existing law as of this writing. Sort of in limbo right now. We still wrote this disclaimer so that you will have an informed choice with your purchase.
Nevertheless, you can be assured that Vhedia LED headlight globes comply with headlamp regulations on illumination, driving and passing beams, and fitting, among others, to ensure the safety of the owner and other drivers on the road. And we will continue to monitor pertinent legislation relevant to our products and comply with any regulations mandated by any law in the future.
