All Vhedia head units run on the latest stable version of the Android operating system. This means your head unit is a fully standalone system, not just a screen for your phone.
Think of it like having a powerful Android tablet built directly into your dashboard.
Unlike systems that rely only on Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, a full Android head unit gives you more flexibility, customisation, and functionality — without being limited by phone-based restrictions.
Install almost any app you want

Android Auto is a driver-friendly interface from your phone, designed for use while driving. It shows a simplified version of your phone on the head unit, focusing on safety and voice control.

Android Auto uses your phone's GPS and mobile data, not the head unit's.
Important to know: Only selected apps are supported, and features are intentionally limited to reduce driver distraction.

What is Apple CarPlay?
Apple CarPlay mirrors key functions from your iPhone in a safer, driving-focused layout.
- Use Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze
- Play music from Spotify, Apple Music, and more
- Make calls and send messages using Siri
Like Android Auto, CarPlay uses your phone's GPS and mobile data.
Limitations: CarPlay only supports approved apps and simplified layouts. For full app freedom and standalone use, the built-in Android system is the key advantage.

With included adaptor kits and control modules, factory features are retained, including:

- Factory reverse cameras and 360° cameras (where applicable)

Vhedia head units are designed for easy DIY installation. Each kit includes vehicle-specific plug-and-play wiring adaptors, control modules where required, and trim removal tools to avoid damaging interior panels.
In most cases, installation involves matching plugs and connecting them — no cutting or splicing required.
You may still need basic tools such as a screwdriver or socket set. If you're not comfortable using basic tools, we recommend professional installation.
All units support Australian FM and AM radio out of the box.
For DAB+ digital radio, an optional plug-in module is available. It plugs into the back of the head unit and includes a windscreen-mounted antenna.
Each unit has a built-in GPS receiver, allowing navigation without a phone. By default, Google Maps is installed, but you can install multiple navigation apps, choose your preferred default, and use offline navigation for remote travel (e.g. Hema 4×4 Maps).
When using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, navigation is handled by your phone instead.
Vhedia head units include an advanced built-in DSP (Digital Signal Processor), allowing you to improve factory speaker sound, fine-tune EQ and sound staging, and optimise music playback for clarity and depth.
The DSP also improves call quality by enhancing microphone pickup while reducing background noise, helping voices sound clearer both ways.
Split screen allows you to view two apps at the same time — for example navigation on one side and music/media on the other. Most apps support split-screen mode, making multitasking easy.
Vhedia head units are designed to be the central command centre of your vehicle. Compatible accessories can display directly on the head unit, keeping your dashboard clean.
- Bluetooth OBD2 Scanner (included): View live engine data, custom dashboards, read/clear fault codes.
- Bluetooth TPMS: Monitor tyre pressures in real time and set warning alerts.
- Reverse & auxiliary cameras: Add reverse or extra cameras (vehicle + caravan/trailer setups supported).
- Dash camera: Add a front-facing dash cam that records and can be viewed on the head unit.

WIRELESS APPLE CARPLAY & ANDROID AUTO
All our head units come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto pre-installed. Apple CarPlay comes with the wireless version while Android Auto functions with either a wired or wireless connection.
Meaning you can just jump in and your phone will auto connect to the our head unit and Apple CarPlay or Android Auto will pop up.

Our M Series units have a built in 4G modem which means you can put a SIM card into the unit to give the unit internet all the time and its own number.
Load those extra apps you can download from the Play Store and have them connected to data at all times.
EZE INSTALL KIT
In our kits, we ensure that they come with the correct plugs and adaptors you need and also a set of trim removal tools. So the majority of the time, a head unit can be installed in under 2 hours. Meaning plug and play installation so no need to cut wires etc. Just unplug the factory plugs and plug ours in.
STREAMLINE YOUR SCREENS
No need for multiple screens for cameras, offline maps, and tyre pressure. All of these can be incorporated into our head units making them the command centre of your car and clearing up your dashboard.
FACTORY LOOK & FACTORY OPTIONS
Our kits come with the adaptor cables and CANBUS adaptors when required to ensure you still keep your factory options such as: Reverse Cameras, Steering Wheel Controls, 360 Cameras, access to those extra settings, factory amplifiers, and etc.

Easy to install and the head runs flawlessly. Super fast, super responsive, android auto wirelessly runs flawlessly with super responsiveness and very minimal delay. Could not be happier! The fascia that comes with the Vhedia unit just needs the clips and the vents from the old one and it goes well. Honestly couldn’t be happier, the only regret I have is not getting one sooner.
This is my second Vhedia head unit install. Easy to install.
